Un appareil à piles de la taille d’un téléavertisseur, appelé pompe à insuline , est porté sur soi en tout temps et libère continuellement de l’insuline à action rapide. L’appareil permet également d’administrer au besoin des doses supplémentaires (bolus) d’insuline, sur commande de son utilisateur.   Le mode de fonctionnement La pompe à insuline libère de façon constante et automatique une quantité (débit de base) d’insuline via une canule (petit tube) insérée sous la peau.
